Photo Gallery and Stories and Comments

Join a small group of nature lovers to explore the remote coastline around Point Hicks in Croajingolong National Park.  This short escape is a chance to get away and let us take care of the detail while you immerse yourself in nature which refreshes and invigorates you.

Imagine walks along unspoilt sandy beaches, exploring rocks on the headland with their amazing colours, discovering what washes up on the beach and wandering along soft leafy tracks through coastal forests. By day listen to quiet birdsong in the forest and by night go to sleep with the sound of waves crashing on the rocks outside your window.

Our accommodation is in historic lighthouse keeper’s quarters at Point Hicks and there is a rich history to hear as you join a ranger guided tour of the lighthouse tower.  If the weather is rough, you will gain a real sense of the need for a lighthouse here, especially as you hear stories of local shipwrecks.

Your guide will share a great love of this coastal environment with you and you will learn about some of the creatures that call Point Hicks home.  Wildlife experiences are a regular joy, whether it’s a wallaby in the forest, lizards basking on the rocks or seals playing in the ocean swell. Spring is wildlfower time and the bush comes to life with extra colour.

We also ensure we find time to contribute to the environment, usually by doing a quick pick up of plastics and other beach-washed rubbish that poses a risk to marine birds and wildlife. We can also involve you in other wildlife monitoring activities to suit your interests, like recording wildlife sightings or completing some bird surveys. Even if you are not a bird-watcher, everyone can keep an eye out for banded birds on the beach, so your guide can get a photo and report the bands to researchers. The information we get back about where the bird was originally banded is fascinating.

Breathe in the beauty of the Croajingolong coast, soak up the peace and quiet while nature works its magic on you.

Maximum of 10 participants.

Sorry this tour has not been re-scheduled for 2020 due to the impacts of bushfires January 2020. Point Hicks remains unburnt and as beautiful as ever, but with fire impacted areas nearby we are not able to assess the viability of proceeding with our usual spring departure.   We hope to be able to support fire affected communities by returning soon, so keep an eye on this page for news of the next date.

Stories, Poems and Comments from past participants

The Colours of Point Hicks by R Akie (Melbourne)

We arrived to view the deep blue sea off the coast and the first night produced a magnificent sunset

The sea mist of the following morning produced muted colours but nothing could dull the brilliance of the Superb Blue Wren

Walking along the foreshore, the red rocks, some fringed  in green lichen, were embedded in the yellow sands and lapped by the white crests of the waves

Discovery on the beach produced a variety of coloured sea shells, sea weed and even a pink jelly fish

Many Spring flowers were very delicate shades of pink and red

Brilliant orange of the fungi clustered on fallen brown trees

Returning from a drive, we encountered the after effects of a bush fire earlier in the year - vivid green Grass-trees sprouting from the black soil

A great time of delight to all our senses but especially our eyes.

Perfect Point Hicks by Cathy (Gippsland)
Pt Hicks is a very special place.  It is astonishingly beautiful and really touches one’s soul. The natural world, the lighthouse and its amazing history and the amazing skies. We saw so many beautiful creatures - wombats, whales, birds of all kinds, lizards, snakes - many different habitats and amazing walks.  Such a knowledgeable organised and terrific guide in Jenny.  Great company, no TV news, no internet, no newspapers.  Bliss!!!  Thank you for everything Jenny, I love your tours and will no doubt see you an another before too long."  Cathy
